Ceramic coating is a chemical bond. A liquid polymer that cross-links with your clearcoat and creates a hydrophobic, UV-resistant shell that lasts years instead of weeks.

What you'll notice first: water sheets off. Bugs and dirt come off in the wash instead of sticking. The paint feels glassier, looks deeper, and stays glossier longer. UV fade slows dramatically — important in the Kansas summer.

What it doesn't do: stop rock chips. That's PPF's job. Most of our customers pair the two — PPF on the front-impact zones, ceramic over the entire vehicle.

We tier our coatings by how long they last and how much prep goes into the install. Multi-stage paint correction, contamination removal, and proper cure time are what separate a real ceramic coating from a $30 spray-on bottle. Pick a tier based on how long you plan to keep the vehicle — we'll match the prep to the timeline.

FAQs

About ceramic coating.

How long does window tint take to install?
+
Most full-vehicle tint jobs take 2 to 4 hours depending on the vehicle and the film tier. SUVs and trucks with quarter glass take longer than sedans. We'll give you a precise estimate when you book, and you're welcome to wait in the shop or drop off and pick up.
What is paint protection film?
+
Paint protection film (PPF) is a clear, self-healing urethane film that goes over your vehicle's paint. It absorbs rock chips, road debris, bug acid, and minor scratches that would otherwise damage the paint underneath. We install 3M PPF — the same film used by OEMs and luxury dealers.
How long does PPF last?
+
3M paint protection film carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty against yellowing, cracking, peeling, and adhesive failure. With normal washing, expect a full decade of protection.
Does PPF really self-heal?
+
Yes — minor scratches and swirl marks disappear when the film is warmed by sunlight or warm water. The top coat is engineered to flow back into shape. Deeper gouges that cut through the film need replacement of the affected panel.
PPF or ceramic coating — which do I need?
+
They solve different problems. PPF is physical armor — it stops rock chips, road debris, and minor impacts before they reach the paint. Ceramic coating is a chemical shield — it makes the surface hydrophobic, easier to clean, and more gloss-stable, but it won't stop a rock. The strongest setup is PPF on the high-impact areas (hood, fenders, bumper, mirrors) with ceramic coating over the whole vehicle.
What does ceramic coating actually do?
+
Ceramic coating chemically bonds to your clearcoat and creates a hydrophobic, UV-resistant shell. Water beads off, dirt and bugs come off easier in the wash, the paint stays glossier longer, and UV fading is slowed dramatically. It does not stop rock chips — that's what PPF is for.
How long does ceramic coating last?
+
Depending on the tier, anywhere from 1 year to 7+ years. The longer-lasting coatings require more prep — paint correction, multi-stage cure — which is why they cost more. We'll match the coating to how long you plan to keep the vehicle.
Do I need an appointment?
+
Yes — we book by appointment so each vehicle gets the dedicated time it deserves. You can book online through our assistant or call us at (785) 775-0202. Walk-ins are welcome to come look at film samples and chat, but installs are scheduled.
Do you offer a warranty?
+
Every install carries a lifetime workmanship warranty from us, plus the manufacturer warranty on the film or coating itself. If anything bubbles, peels, or fails, bring it back — we'll make it right.
Do you serve Fort Riley?
+
Yes — Fort Riley is a huge part of our customer base. We're 15 minutes from the West Gate and used to PCS timelines, so if you're moving in or out and need work done quickly, just tell us your timeline when you book.
How long have you been in business?
+
Jay and Tish Carroll founded Precision Tint in 1986. We've been on Fort Riley Blvd serving Manhattan, Junction City, and Fort Riley for nearly four decades. Most of our customers come back, and a lot of them are now bringing in vehicles for their kids.
